In Japan, the Seventh Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards honored two Tsarine cuvées from the House of Chanoine Frères:
Gold Medal for Tsarine Cuvée Premium
Double Gold Medal for Tsarine Rosé
What sets this competition apart is that the jury is made up exclusively of Japanese women wine specialists and that the award announcements traditionally take place on 14 February — Valentine’s Day, but also women’s day in Japan.
This year, 560 Japanese women wine professionals — sommelières, oenologists, vintners, wine educators, restaurant owners, wine dealers, journalists — took part in a blind tasting of more than 4,300 wines from all over the world.
Founded in 2014 by Madame Yumi Tanabe, President of the Wine & Spirits Culture Association, the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards is now the largest wine competition in Asia.
These two awards add even more luster to the achievements of Isabelle Tellier, Head Wine-Maker of the House of Chanoine Freres, who is one of the first women ever to hold that position in a Champagne house.
