Chanoine Héritage Rosé, dressed in rose “à la Pompadour

Chanoine Héritage Rosé is a kind of tribute to the 18th century, during which the House came into being, and more precisely a nod to the reign of Louis XV and the lady who ruled the King's heart — Madame de Pompadour.

Incidentally, in a lovely coincidence, Jeanne-Antoinette, the future Madame de Pompadour, the celebrated favorite of Louis XV, was born exactly 300 years ago this year.

In February 1745 she was 24 years old, and Louis was 35. She was ravishing and he was a fine figure of a man. Louis “The Beloved” fell in love at a masked ball held in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Dressed as Diana the Huntress, she was irresistible.

The King and his official mistress, who became Marquise de Pompadour, both loved late suppers with champagne. Legend has it that the Marquise is the author of the phrase “Champagne is the only wine that leaves a woman beautiful after drinking it.”

As intelligent as she was beautiful, a lover of art and a woman of taste, the Marquise was an influential patroness of the arts and letters. At court, it was she who set the tone and dictated the fashion. It was she who made champagne fashionable, and also the wearing of rose — a color she loved and which was so well suited to her fair complexion. The Marquise dressed in pink and had the royal manufactory of Sèvres create the first rose-colored porcelain articles — which the King himself gave the name “Rose Pompadour.”
